H&M Girlfriend Jeans
Have you ever look at your closet and thought "I have too many clothes and nothing to wear?!?" This thought never fails to come to my head and I am always scolded by my mom when I buy new things and I just brush it off by saying that I'll get rid of a couple of things soon. They either end up in the local thrift store-priced way beyond my wishes- or trashed. It saddens me that there are minimal options for unwanted clothing. That is where H&M steps in.
H&M has made a commitment to being the first fashion company to launch a global garment collection initiative. Instead of throwing out clothes you are able to take them into an H&M location where they will repurpose one of the three ways:
Re-wear- clothing that can be worn again will be sold as second-hand clothes
Reuse- old clothes will be turned into other products, such as cleaning cloths
Recycle- everything else is turned into textile fibers, or other use such as insulation
In return, H&M will thank you with a 15% off coupon for your next purchase. Yay! More clothes!
On a side note, there are also many other ways to reuse old garments in your wardrobe by doing a bit of DIY. This leads me to the series part that I'll be continuing these next couple of weeks. Today I will show you how I painted my H&M Girlfriend jeans!
This all started when I saw these awesome Girlfriend jeans at H&M and I thought about getting them, but I noticed that many of my co-workers were buying them and I didn't want to be another follower in buying them; plus I already own so many pairs of jeans so I didn't see the point in them. A couple of days later though I saw a pair of painted jeans on the Barney's website and I was inspired to recreate them, so I went ahead and bought them.
The project is pretty easy to do. All you need is an old pair of jeans from your closet, paintbrush (I bought mine from the dollar store.) and some fabric paint from your local art store. I used Tulip Soft Matte fabric that I bought from Michael's. On the directions, it says to pre-wash fabric but I don't think it makes a difference plus I don't mind it washing out a bit since I will get a stain effect but the choice is ours! I decided to go for a splatter effect so I just dropped each color, one by one, onto the jeans and spread it around. The directions then call for the fabric to lay flat for 4 hours then wash it inside out, but I was so pleased with the results that I wore them out the next day! Do be warned that the fabric will be a bit stiff but nothing too uncomfortable to wear around normally.

Hope you guys enjoyed this cool little DIYand for my next one I will be doing the basic tee I am wearing with braided straps. I have always loved DIY'ing and found it as a cheap alternative to copying some of my fav celeb looks and I really encourage you guys to do some with a couple of your items in your closet and donate your unused scraps or garments to H&M!
*Disclaimer: I was in no way promoted or paid by H&M to do this post. I did this purely out of my love for H&M and DIY.
